Job Title: Technical Product Owner – SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris).
Location: Grand Rapids, MI (On-site).
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099).
About the Opportunity
ZipStaff is seeking a Technical Product Owner for the SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris) cart-and-order platform at a major grocery and retail organization.
This is not a ticket-writing PO role. You own a high-volume Java commerce platform — cart, checkout, regulated tender, promotions, and order lifecycle — and you are accountable for what it does, what it stops doing, and what it costs to run. Highest-value work is diagnosed from production telemetry, not gathered only from stakeholders.
What You’ll Do:
- Own the cart-to-order engine: cart and cart-group (including marketplace carts), checkout, place-order, and the full order lifecycle (place, edit, cancel, replace, status).
- Own regulated multi-tender checkout, including EBT SNAP and EBT WIC, mixed tender, and related compliance surfaces.
- Own promotions and rewards pricing, subscriptions, tip orders, and donation flows.
- Own platform health and cost: capacity, latency, error budget, and SAP Commerce Cloud consumption.
- Own integration contracts: OCC API versioning, Kafka feeds, order export to OMS, and identity through Okta / Azure APIM.
- Drive deliberate retirement of legacy surfaces (legacy REST, order-export transports, and unused vendor paths).
- Own a large Azure DevOps backlog (epic through story/enabler/bug) and run SAFe PI planning and sprint commitment.
- Investigate production incidents directly (SAP Cloud Logging, Dynatrace, Azure SQL Query Store, HAC, FlexibleSearch) and write root-cause analysis with named signals.
- Run pre-deploy risk review and Technical PO Go/No-Go, including rollback and post-release verification.
- Coordinate Order Broker, payments, OMS, marketplace, and data-integration partners, and manage SAP as a vendor.
- Continue the team’s AI-assisted engineering program (agent governance, MCP tooling, repeatable skills) where determinism must replace inference.
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years in product ownership, technical program management, or engineering on a large-scale transactional commerce platform, with 3+ years owning a platform or domain end to end.
- Hands-on SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris): type system and items.xml, service and facade layering, OCC controllers, ImpEx, cron jobs, task engine, business-process order flows, and CCv2 aspect topology.
- Ability to read Java and Spring configuration, reason about a SQL plan, and interpret a distributed trace.
- Production incident ownership: Sev1/Sev2 root-cause analysis on a revenue-critical system, driven to a verified fix.
- Data-driven prioritization — you query logs and telemetry yourself before committing engineering capacity.
- Azure DevOps at working depth (hierarchy, WIQL, boards, wiki, pipelines) and SAFe PI planning.
- Strong structured writing (findings, ADRs, executive summaries, release reports).
- Ability to work on-site in Grand Rapids, MI.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Grocery, retail, or omnichannel commerce, especially EBT SNAP/WIC or another regulated tender.
- OMS, marketplace / 3P, store pickup and delivery.
- Kafka, Redis, and Azure SQL performance.
- OpenTelemetry / observability practice.
- Major platform upgrade (JDK, Spring, or commerce replatform).
- AI-assisted engineering (agent instructions, MCP, skill authoring) with judgment on where scripts must replace model inference.
- LaunchDarkly and performance testing (k6, JMeter).
Benefits:
- Health Insurance.
- Dental Insurance.
- Vision Insurance.
- 401(k).
- 401(k) matching.
- Paid time off.
- Referral Program.
