Job Title: Technical Architect II – AI-Native
Location: Remote (U.S.)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)
About the Opportunity
ZipStaff is seeking a Technical Architect II – AI-Native to lead solution architecture for an assigned business area at a leading healthcare analytics and payment-integrity organization.
You will turn product and architecture direction into implementable designs across applications, services, APIs, data flows, and platform components — and treat AI as both a product capability and an engineering accelerator (agents, copilots, code generation, automated testing). This is a hands-on architecture seat in a regulated healthcare domain, not a slide-only enterprise-architect role.
What You’ll Do:
- Define and drive architecture for the assigned business area.
- Translate business/product intent into delivery-ready designs and specifications.
- Design systems that use AI-enabled capabilities where they create clear business value.
- Set guardrails for safe, accountable use of AI in applications and engineering workflows.
- Advance AI-assisted development: copilots, agents, code generation, automated testing, reusable AI skills.
- Establish architecture standards, patterns, and design reviews (APIs, services, data flows, platform).
- Guide trade-offs across cost, scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.
- Partner with developers and tech leads so architecture is realized in code.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, platform, security, data, and enterprise architecture.
- Mentor engineers and other architects on modern and AI-assisted delivery practices.
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years designing and building web, workflow, service, and backend applications, including architecture ownership for one or more teams.
- Strong application / solution architecture: API design, service decomposition, integration patterns, workflow-oriented applications.
- Hands-on experience with modern languages/frameworks such as Java, Golang, Spring, or comparable stacks.
- Deep familiarity with microservices, cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, streaming, and enterprise integration.
- Experience applying AI-assisted development, agent-based workflows, and reusable AI skills with judgment on correctness, security, and maintainability.
- Strong SDLC background: Agile, CI/CD, DevOps, APM/observability.
- Ability to evaluate trade-offs and lead architecture decisions without daily supervision.
- Ability to review implementation detail and stay credible with developers.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in CS, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Dedicated secure home office and high-speed internet.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Healthcare data, clinical/administrative workflows, or regulated-industry architecture.
- Experience translating regulatory requirements into technical design.
- Mentoring architects/engineers and leading without formal authority.
