Job Title: Sr. Systems Manager – BaaS Platform (C# / .NET / Azure)
Location: Pasadena, CA (On-site)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)
About the Opportunity
ZipStaff is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join the Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) team at a leading fintech and embedded finance organization.
In this role, you will design, build, and support scalable, secure, high-performance systems that enable partner onboarding and embedded financial services across a broader partner ecosystem. This is a hands-on engineering role with technical leadership expectations — not a people-management or traditional systems-administration role.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop APIs and microservices that support BaaS onboarding and partner integration
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to define technical requirements and deliver robust solutions
- Support engineering excellence through code reviews, mentoring, and best practices in CI/CD, testing, and observability
- Ensure compliance with SLA standards and contribute to monitoring and alerting systems
- Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis to improve system reliability
- Draft architectural and design documentation to support design options analysis and decision-making
- Evaluate emerging technologies for applicability, feasibility, and adoption paths
- Refactor and extend the existing codebase to fix defects and add features/functionality
- Build durable, flexible systems that favor configurability over customization
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 1 year in a technical leadership role
- Strong portfolio of work developing secure, standards-compliant code across multiple platforms
- Proficiency in C#, .NET, and SQL
- Hands-on experience with Azure native services (APIM, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Key Vault), container technologies, and caching frameworks
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design, OAuth2, and OpenAPI specifications
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture (Service Bus, Event Hubs) and microservice-based patterns
- Hands-on experience implementing observability dashboards and platforms (e.g., Datadog, Grafana)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment delivering iterative, mission-critical, customer-facing applications
- Deep knowledge of Git, DevOps, Agile Scrum, and security best practices in financial services
- Familiarity with compliance standards such as PCI DSS and SOC 2
- Ability to work on-site in Pasadena, CA
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in fintech or embedded finance platforms
- Familiarity with partner onboarding workflows and SLA management
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical publications
