Location: McLean, VA (On-site).
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099).
About the Opportunity:
ZipStaff is seeking a Senior Software Developer to support the Investments & Capital Markets forecasting platform at a major financial institution in McLean, VA.
You will develop and enhance core features of enterprise forecasting engines used for long-term financial projections, strategic planning, and critical quarterly/yearly production runs. This role combines strong production software engineering with financial-application depth — refactoring existing components, improving model accuracy and performance, and partnering with FP&A stakeholders.
What You’ll Do:
- Refactor and modernize existing components of the financial accounting and forecasting application.
- Develop and enhance core forecasting-engine features to improve model accuracy, runtime efficiency, and enterprise readiness.
- Support critical quarterly production runs used in financial reporting — monitor execution, troubleshoot issues, and protect integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of outputs.
- Diagnose and resolve defects, reduce technical debt, and drive continuous engineering improvements.
- Write clean, robust, high-quality code with automated unit and integration tests and strong coverage.
- Coordinate across data, services, APIs, and infrastructure layers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Partner with FP&A and other stakeholders to implement new forecasting capabilities, support scenario analysis, and meet business and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with infrastructure upgrades, platform migrations, and adoption of new technologies.
- Contribute to design discussions, code reviews, and documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of hands-on software development using a modern language (Python, Java, or C#).
- Experience with Git in a team-based development environment.
- Experience with SQL and relational database development.
- Experience with unit-testing frameworks (pytest, JUnit, or equivalent) and automated test coverage.
- Proficiency with shell scripting for automation, troubleshooting, and operational support.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes).
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Agile development processes.
- Ability to work on-site in McLean, VA.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Financial-domain experience, especially fixed income concepts (duration, convexity, spread, OAS).
- Understanding of GAAP accounting fundamentals (revenue/expense recognition, amortization).
- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- CFA, FRM, CPA, or significant progress toward one of these.
- Experience engaging stakeholders to gather requirements and drive delivery.
- Exposure to Jira or similar planning/tracking tools.
