Job Title: Python Developer – Package Integration & Upgrades
Location: Edison, NJ (On-site)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)
About the Opportunity
ZipStaff is seeking an experienced Python Developer to support package upgrades and third-party integrations for a global technology services organization.
In this role, you will upgrade and integrate third-party Python packages, resolve packaging and compatibility issues, fix build and automated test failures, and maintain technical documentation. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on dependency management, packaging, and CI stability rather than general application feature development.
What You’ll Do:
- Upgrade Python packages across supported runtime versions.
- Resolve dependency, API, import, packaging, and test failures.
- Update package metadata and internal build configuration.
- Reconcile local patches and diagnose CI / presubmit failures.
- Validate upgrades and maintain clear technical documentation.
- Work with pip, PyPI, wheels, virtual environments, and Python packaging standards.
- Support automated testing (pytest or equivalent) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Analyze logs and troubleshoot build/test failures in Linux environments.
Required Qualifications:
- 4–5+ years of strong hands-on Python development and debugging experience.
- Solid experience with pip, PyPI, wheels, virtual environments, and Python packaging.
- Experience with pytest (or equivalent testing frameworks).
- Proven experience resolving dependency and version compatibility issues.
- Strong Git, Linux scripting, CI/CD, and log analysis skills.
- Experience maintaining or integrating open-source Python packages.
- Ability to work on-site in Edison, NJ.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with setuptools, Poetry, or native C-extension builds.
- Familiarity with Bazel, Copybara, or monorepo environments.
- Experience with security remediation related to package upgrades.
- Prior work supporting large-scale package or dependency upgrade initiatives.
