Job Title: Principal Architect – Field Technology & Endpoint Solutions
Location: Washington, DC (On-site)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)
About the Opportunity:
ZipStaff is seeking a Principal Architect for field technology and endpoint platforms at a major passenger-rail organization.
You will set the target-state architecture for mobility, rugged devices, kiosks, and shared operational endpoints used in asset management, engineering, and maintenance — including offline and intermittent connectivity. This is an architecture seat — not a device-imaging role and not a help-desk UEM role.
What You’ll Do:
- Define the target-state architecture and roadmap for mobile, endpoint, and field technology.
- Set standards for corporate, rugged, shared, kiosk, and specialized operational devices.
- Architect field mobility for maintenance, inspections, engineering, and asset-condition work.
- Design integration patterns to EAM, ERP, GIS, ITSM, identity, and document management.
- Define UEM / MDM, device compliance, application delivery, ZTNA, Conditional Access, and endpoint protection.
- Design connectivity across Wi-Fi, cellular, private LTE/5G, and VPN/ZTNA, with offline-first sync.
- Rationalize fragmented mobility platforms and devices.
- Lead solution reviews and vendor evaluations.
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, mobility, endpoint management, or field technology.
- 3+ years in a senior architecture role in a large enterprise.
- UEM / MDM: Microsoft Intune, VMware Workspace ONE, Jamf, or Ivanti.
- Mobility and endpoint design for field engineering, maintenance, or asset-heavy operations.
- Integration of mobile and field apps to EAM, ERP, GIS, or ITSM with APIs or events.
- iOS, Android, and Windows, plus rugged devices, kiosk mode, and shared-device management.
- Identity, Conditional Access, Zero Trust, PKI, and device compliance.
- Offline-first capture, sync, Wi-Fi, cellular, and private LTE/5G patterns.
- Ability to work on-site in Washington, DC.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Transportation, rail, utilities, or other field-operations environments.
- Enterprise Asset Management (Maximo or equivalent) as an integration target.
Benefits:
- Health Insurance.
- Dental Insurance.
- Vision Insurance.
- 401(k) + 401(k) matching.
- Paid time off.
- Referral Program.
