Job Title: Lead IBM Maximo Technical Consultant
Location: Washington, DC (On-site)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)

About the Opportunity:
ZipStaff is seeking a seasoned Lead IBM Maximo Technical Consultant to drive complex enterprise asset management modernization, migration, and infrastructure initiatives for a leading transportation organization.
In this high-impact, hands-on role, you will serve as the primary technical authority leading end-to-end upgrades across IBM Maximo 7.5, 7.6, and IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS) 9. You will bridge application and infrastructure domains by architecting robust integrations via the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF), leading hypervisor transitions (VMware to Microsoft Hyper-V), coordinating Oracle database migrations, and establishing repeatable enterprise standards. Partnering closely with cross-functional development, cybersecurity, database, and infrastructure teams, you will tackle ambiguous requirements, troubleshoot multi-tier production issues, and execute reliable cutovers for mission-critical enterprise systems. This is an on-site role in Washington, DC.

What You’ll Do:
  • Provide technical direction and oversight across concurrent Maximo upgrade, re-platforming, and migration projects, taking ownership from initial architecture through deployment and post-go-live support.
  • Architect and lead upgrades from legacy Maximo 7.5/7.6 environments toward modern IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS 9) architectures, including containerized deployments on Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Direct platform migration efforts moving environments from VMware to Microsoft Hyper-V, and oversee database upgrade/migration activities from Oracle 11 to Oracle 12 or approved alternatives.
  • Design, configure, and maintain enterprise integrations via the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF), managing enterprise services, publish/invocation channels, external endpoints, message queues, and cron tasks.
  • Perform root-cause analysis across complex technology stacks—including Maximo application code, WebSphere Application Server, IBM HTTP Server, Oracle databases, SSL/TLS certificates, networking, and middleware layers.
  • Translate evolving business requirements into detailed technical designs, deployment playbooks, rollback procedures, and performance-tuning guidelines while enforcing system recoverability and security standards.
  • Coordinate closely with project leadership, infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, QA, and external software vendors to surface technical risks, resolve scheduling blockers, and ensure audit compliance.
  • Lead technical validation and cutover activities during planned maintenance windows, system upgrades, and major production releases.

Required Qualifications:
  • Significant hands-on technical consulting experience with IBM Maximo 7.5 and 7.6, paired with practical experience architecting, configuring, and supporting IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS 9).
  • Proven expertise with the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF), message queuing systems, web services, REST APIs, and external enterprise system connectivity.
  • Demonstrable experience migrating complex enterprise applications between virtualization platforms (VMware to Hyper-V) and supporting Oracle database migrations/upgrades.
  • Strong background supporting WebSphere Application Server (WAS), IBM HTTP Server (IHS), Java-based enterprise architectures, Linux/Windows operating systems, and network/certificate configurations.
  • Working knowledge of containerization platforms (Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes) and cloud-hosted application deployments relevant to MAS 9 architectures.
  • Demonstrated success serving as a technical lead on large-scale enterprise rollouts, operating autonomously, and delivering structured technical solutions in ambiguous environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder-facing communication skills, with a track record of producing clear architecture diagrams, cutover runbooks, and technical risk assessments.
  • Ability to work on-site in Washington, DC.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience leading Maximo upgrades or migrations in transportation, rail, or highly regulated operational environments.
  • Hands-on experience with containerized MAS 9 deployments on Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Strong track record of multi-tier troubleshooting across Maximo, WebSphere, Oracle, and infrastructure layers.
  • Experience coordinating cutovers and post-go-live support for mission-critical enterprise asset management systems.

Benefits:
  • Health Insurance.
  • Dental Insurance.
  • Vision Insurance.
  • 401(k) + 401(k) matching.
  • Paid time off.
  • Referral Program.
