Location: Remote (U.S.; Minnetonka, MN time zone)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)

About the Opportunity

ZipStaff is seeking an HL7 Integration Engineer for end-to-end interoperability and interface delivery in a live Epic environment at a major healthcare organization.
You will build and support Epic Bridges interfaces and the integration engine, from requirements through production, with minimal ramp-up. This is an expert Bridges and engine seat — not an analyst role and not a FHIR-only role.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver new interfaces from requirements through build, test, production, and post-deploy support
  • Build and support HL7 v2.x interfaces: ADT, SIU, ORM, ORU, MDM, DFT, MFN, and X12/EDI
  • Troubleshoot integration-engine failures independently in a 24x7 setting
  • Make Epic-side build changes to enable or modify interfaces
  • Support vendor interfaces connected to Epic and Epic upgrade cycles (Nova Notes review and regression)
  • Translate clinical and business requirements into HL7 mappings and interface specifications
  • Explain failures clearly to non-technical stakeholders in a HIPAA environment

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years hands-on Epic Bridges interface development and production support in a live healthcare environment
  • Epic Bridges certification (current)
  • 5+ years HL7 v2.x development and production support on Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, and InterSystems
  • Expert-level build and support of ADT, SIU, ORM, ORU, MDM, DFT, MFN, and X12/EDI
  • Independent resolution of interface failures, including Bridges-to-engine message flow and error scenarios
  • Epic upgrade support (Nova Notes and regression) and vendor interfaces
  • Live hospital or multi-facility Epic integration experience
  • HIPAA-regulated healthcare IT
  • 24x7 production and on-call
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related, or equivalent experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • Epic Data Courier certification
  • FHIR or API-based integration
  • VPN/TLS and SFTP
  • HIEs, external registries, and cloud integration
  • Python, Java, .NET, or JavaScript
  • AI agents applied to integration engineering

Benefits
