Job Title: Embedded Software Test Engineer – Cybersecurity IV&V
Location: Plymouth, MN (On-site)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)
About the Opportunity
ZipStaff is seeking an Embedded Software Test Engineer to perform independent verification and validation of cybersecurity enhancements on a hydraulic mobile-valve controller at a global fluid-power manufacturer.
You will verify secure boot, firmware authentication, access control, and secure update on a Texas Instruments TMS320F2809 (C2000) and produce evidence for EU Cyber Resilience Act technical documentation. This is a hands-on embedded security test seat on target hardware — not a feature-development role and not an IT security role.
What You’ll Do
- Design and execute test plans to independently verify cybersecurity enhancements on the embedded controller
- Evaluate secure boot, firmware authentication, access-control models, and secure over-the-air / in-field update
- Produce verification plans, test cases, trace matrices, and evidence for the EU Cyber Resilience Act and related frameworks
- Use JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers for low-level verification, fault injection, and hardware-in-the-loop testing on the target
- Develop Python scripts for security regression, hardware interfacing, and test-output parsing
- Review Embedded C firmware and run static analysis against secure-implementation issues
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in embedded software verification, test engineering, or embedded security validation
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Hands-on firmware development or test on Texas Instruments C2000 (TMS320F2809 or a similar TI DSP/MCU)
- Secure boot, cryptographic signature verification, key management, access control, and secure firmware flashing
- Evidence generation for EU CRA, IEC 62443, or ETSI EN 303 645
- Embedded C for firmware review and Python for test automation
- JTAG debuggers, in-circuit emulators, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers
- Ability to work on-site in Plymouth, MN
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications
- Hydraulic, mobile-equipment, or industrial-controller test
- Fault injection and HIL on a production controller
- Prior CRA or IEC 62443 technical-file contribution
Benefits
- Health Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Vision Insurance
- 401(k)
