Job Title: Sr. Embedded Software Engineer – Remote Control Systems
Location: Pittsburgh, PA (On-site)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff — No C2C or 1099)

About the Opportunity
ZipStaff is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to support the Remote Control System group at a global leader in heavy equipment and industrial machinery.

In this role, you will work as part of an engineering team to design, develop, integrate, and test robust, scalable features on embedded electronic control systems and vision systems used in remote control machine applications.

What You’ll Do:
  • Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software features for remote control and machine control systems.
  • Work with embedded electronic control systems and vision system components used in remote control machine applications.
  • Apply requirements engineering, system architecture, electrical schematic understanding, system integration, and verification & validation (V&V) practices.
  • Develop software using Embedded C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink in real-time operating system (RTOS) environments.
  • Work with communication protocols including CAN and Ethernet.
  • Utilize tools such as CANoe/CANalyzer, Wireshark, and Git in modern development and test workflows.
  • Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot) to improve development efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on integration, troubleshooting, and delivery of production-quality embedded features.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Embedded Software Development, Integration, and Validation.
  • Strong knowledge of requirements engineering, system architecture, electrical schematics, system integration, and V&V.
  • Proficiency in Embedded C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, RTOS, CAN, Ethernet, and embedded control systems.
  • Experience with CANoe/CANalyzer, Wireshark, Git, and modern development/test tools.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work on-site in Pittsburgh, PA.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Autonomy, Robotics, Remote Control, or Machine Control Systems.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR, Functional Safety, FMEA, HIL/SIL, DOORS/Jama, and automated test frameworks.
